This is part of a lecture performance given in Professor Sarah Weiss world music class this fall at Yale. Music is interspersed with commentary on the development of raga in the 3 movements of alaap, jor, jhala.
International performing artist Paul Livingstone has studied and played sitar for the past 30 years as a disciple of the late legend and icon of Indian arts Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Rajeev Taranath and Prof. Amiya Dasgupta. Paul is also a composer, educator & activist in Los Angeles. He performs on sitar and unique fretless guitars of his own design and has submerged himself in musical traditions of all 6 continents. Paul has recorded with a diversity of world, jazz & popular artists including playing on two Grammy Award winning records with Ozomatli & Ricky Kej.
